Mastiffs are quite loyal to other dogs. Their strength and sizes make them practically unassailable. Still Mastiffs may sometimes blow into fight, in case when they need to show their leadership or fight for their sexual positions. One hundred kilogram dog is extremely dangerous, and the owner should learn to control his puppy from the early childhood. Mastiffs are usually the best watchdogs. When a huge barking Mastiff with reared withers appears in the doorway, the desire of going ahead puts off itself. Still they are not warlike. Their character is more intelligent and mild, than aggressive. These dogs need people company more than any other breed. If the Mastiff stays alone in the cage or spends little time with people, it will pine and as a result these factors may lead to the development of destructive behavior. If there is no tight connection between the Mastiff and his family, he won't be a good guardian, because he won't be sure that he belongs to this family. Rational, well-socialized Mastiff will stand for his family's safety in case of need. He will do it in the very moment you need help and he will be very loyal to your friends and members of the family. Some people, though, don't understand the difference between defense and aggression. If the dog snarls when there is no need it is aggression. A well-bred Mastiff can clearly assess the situation and make the decision whether you are endangered or not. That's why you will never know your dog better until you get into trouble.
