GENRAL VIEW: when looking from different sides, the head of Mastiff reminds a square. The width of the head is a valuable breed sign and correlates with the length of the head as 2 to 3. The body is characterized as the following: formidable, wide, profound, long, solidly-shaped with straight set of head as well as clean-cut muscles, resting upon limbs placed widely apart. Big size of the dog is a great advantage if general balance and good proportions are provided. The skeleton is big, strong, symmetric and well-formed.
BEHAVIOUR / TEMPER : combines nobleness and courage. The dog is calm, loyal to its owner, and a good guard.
HEAD
CRANIAL PART :
Between the ears the skull is wide; the forehead is flat, though when the dog becomes alerted there appear wrinkles on it. The superciliary arches are slightly raised. The head and cheeks’ muscles are well developed and prominent. The skull is crossed by longitudinal furrow in the form of flat curve descending from the central point on the forehead (that is between the ears) to the cheekbone.
FACIAL PART:
The nose lobe is big with wide open nostrils (viewed at a front sight); when looking from aside it is flat (not pointed and not turned-up).
The muzzle is short, wide under the eyes and well filled throughout the nose; it is truncated, e.g. blunt and cut off in the form of square forming the right angle along with the upper face line; it is quite deep from the nose lobe to the lower jaw. The muzzle length correlates with skull length as 1 to 3; the muzzle circumference (measured in the middle between eyes and nose lobe) correlates with skull circumference (measured before the ears) as 3 to 5.
The lips part at an obtuse angle; they are wet, slightly drooping, forming a square-shaped profile of the dog’s muzzle.
Jaw/ teeth: the lower jaw is wide. The teeth are healthy, strong and wide set. The bite is straight or an undershot. The corner teeth are not allowed to protrude from the upper lip.
